ACT Center Recognized for Fighting Cancer

In recognition of the center's long-term efforts, the Mississippi Partnership for Comprehensive Cancer Control recently awarded the ACT Center for Tobacco Treatment, Education, and Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center the Prevention of Cancer in Mississippi Award.

"The award was given to UMC in recognition of the facility's personal effort to prevent cancer through community education and outreach and its efforts in tobacco education," said Victor D. Sutton, director of the Mississippi Department of Health's Office of Preventive Health.

The center has offered a free, comprehensive cessation program since 1999 at the Jackson Medical Mall Thad Cochran Center.
