Forrest General Hospital Rehabilitation Unit Awarded CARF Reaccredidation

The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) announced that Forrest General Hospital Rehabilitation Unit has been reaccredited for a period of three years for its Inpatient Hospital Rehabilitation Program.

This accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization's substantial conformance to the standards established by CARF. An organization receiving a Three Year Accreditation outcome has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable, and accountable.

The nursing and therapy staff worked diligently to prepare for this survey. "It is the staff that makes this unit what patients, families, and physicians remember, and Forrest General Hospital is very proud to have them," said Cindy D'Egidio, Interim Program Director of Rehab.

The Forrest General Hospital Rehabilitation program was commended for their ability to maintain a safe environment for patients, which was demonstrated during Hurricane Katrina disaster, when personnel sacrificed personal conveniences for safety and comfort levels of the patients. The unit was also commended for the thoroughness that went into discharge planning and the type of discharge instructions given to patients. The commission acknowledged the strength exhibited by Forrest General Hospital's Rehabilitation Unit in the manner that supports the needs of the patients served and personnel.
