Woman’s Hospital’s Laboratory Services Department has been re-accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and received its first accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). The voluntary inspections and subsequent accreditations follow an intensive onsite assessment of policies, procedures and practices of all aspects of laboratory testing and anatomic pathology. These unannounced surveys foster constant preparedness in hospitals.
AABB is an international, not-for-profit association representing individuals and institutions involved in the field of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies. The association is committed to improving health by developing and delivering standards, accreditation and educational programs that focus on optimizing patient and donor care and safety.

CARF International announced that North Mississippi Medical Center has been accredited for three years for its inpatient adult rehabilitation and stroke specialty programs.

The Rehabilitation Institute is housed on the west wing of NMMC’s first floor. The 29-bed inpatient unit is staffed with a team of professionals who provide three to five hours of intensive therapy daily to help patients reach their individual goals. Patients are cared for by board-certified physiatrists (physicians specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation), as well as case managers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, rehabilitation nurses, speech-language pathologists, recreational therapist and a clinical psychologist.
