Neurology Practice Formed at Wesley Medical Center
A new neurology practice has joined the Hattiesburg medical community with the May opening of Neurology Associates at Wesley Medical Center. Drs. Jose Carrau, Michael Garbee and Kathleen Messenger joined together to form the practice located in Wesley Towers.
 
"As Wesley Medical Center continues to expand our services and facility, we look for areas where we believe there is a need that we can meet," said David Hollis, business development coordinator. "We found there was a need for additional neurological options in Hattiesburg, and we are excited to be able to provide this service to the patients we treat. We are fortunate to have found a group of physicians we feel so closely connected to in the philosophy of the medicine they practice and services we provide."
 
Neurology Associates offers general neurology services. Some of the conditions treated include headaches, vertigo, stroke, seizures, Parkinson's Disease, all forms of dementia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, neuropathy and muscular wasting diseases.
 
"Our goal is to bring the latest and most up-to-date medical treatment for neurological disorders to the community," said Michael Garbee, MD. "Our patients are seen promptly and benefit from our being part of Wesley Medical Center, providing the finest healthcare in South Mississippi."
 
Garbee received his medical degree from the American University of Caribbean School of Medicine and completed a surgery internship at New York City Einstein-Montefore. He then completed residencies in neurology at the Louisiana State University New Orleans Charity Hospital and the Medical College of Virginia.
 
Carrau received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico and completed an internal medicine internship at Virginia Medical Center, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He went on to complete neurology residencies at LSU University New Orleans Charity Hospital and the University of Cincinnati. He also completed a neurophysiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Nashville.
 
Messenger received her medical degree from Tulane University where she also completed an internship and neurology residency. Additionally, she completed pediatric fellowship training at Tulane and neuromuscular disease/EMG fellowship training at LSU. She is board certified in adult neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
