Oxford Medical Community Plans Free Clinic
A new free clinic to serve the working uninsured is set to open this fall in Oxford, following a multi-year effort that has involved the city's entire medical community.
The local nonprofit Health Services In-Action, launched in 2002 as a healthcare access program, is coordinating with doctors, nurses, pharmacists and a broad array of community organizations in preparing the Medical Ministries Clinic of Oxford.
Local donors have provided both the clinic's site at Oxford Commerce Park and the structure itself. The reconfigured modular building was previously used for temporary laboratories and office space by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
Health Services volunteers are working with representatives of McKesson Corporation to design the interior layouts of the pharmacy and examination spaces, as well as inventory the equipment that will be needed. The company has agreed to sell the clinic exam room materials at cost and to install everything, said Health Services executive director Lynn Sloan.
