Working to Restart Mississippi's Hearts
It could happen to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime: sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function. Sudden cardiac death occurs with in minutes after symptoms appear.

The American Heart Association is working to restart hearts and raise awareness about this silent killer at the 2007 Art for Heart Gala. Art for Heart is a premier social event that includes a seated dinner, a drawdown, an extensive silent auction, and an exclusive live auction. Its primary goal is to raise funds to continue the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease and stroke.

"We want the gala to be fun and entertaining, but we also want people to know that by participating in this wonderful event, they are helping to save the lives of thousands of people in Mississippi and across the country," said Shirley Kennedy, chair of the 2007 Art for Heart committee. "The lives that you save may be the lives of those you love or even your own."

Participants will also have the opportunity to raise their paddle to support research and education programs that focus on sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden death from cardiac arrest is a major health problem that has received much less publicity than heart attack.

Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in Mississippi. The American Heart Association's mission is to reduce death and disability caused by heart disease and stroke.

2007 will mark the 29 year of Art for Heart in the greater Jackson area. The event will be held at Country Club of Jackson at 6:30 p.m. January 26. This year's featured artist is Greg Cartmell. For more information about Art for Heart call the American Heart Association at 601-321-1200.
